11.16.20 -
- This message is brought to you by ti@TI. As members of TI we are on a mission to spread awareness and educate others about the dangers and consequences of alcohol, tobacco, and substance abuse.
- During the course of this week we will be talking to you about a very important topic: the dangers of smoking.
- Did you know that, “Seventy percent of adolescent smokers say they would never have started if they could choose again. That's because the nicotine in cigarettes is addictive. The risk of becoming addicted to nicotine is between one in two and one in three.”
- So next time you think about beginning to smoke remember just how hard it may be to stop.
11.17.20 -
- In order to continue spreading awareness about the dangers of smoking and tobacco this message is being brought to you by ti@TI:
- Did you know eighty-eight percent of adults who smoke daily started smoking by age 18. Ninety-nine percent started by age 26.
- Most teenagers aren’t mature enough to think of the long-term consequences so they fall victim to the appeals of smoking. On top of that, tobacco companies use marketing tactics that are specifically targeted toward teenagers! Think about it like this: teens get addicted to smoking, tobacco companies receive lifelong customers, their revenue increases while the smokers list of health concerns increases.
- To bring awareness we are asking our students and faculty to send us pictures of themselves with a sign that reads: “I pledge not to smoke because....” These pictures will be collected and posted on the ti@TI instagram page!
- Please send the emails to one of the following:

11.19.20 - The Great American Smokeout
- Today is the third Thursday of November. For more than 40 years, the American Cancer Society has recognized every third Thursday in November as The Great American Smokeout. Today is a day to take action. The Great American Smokeout is an opportunity for all those who smoke to commit to a healthy, smoke free life. It is also an opportunity to encourage family, friends and loved ones to quit smoking.
- You may be wondering why this is important. Well, did you know that more than 480,000 people die every year from smoking-related diseases? Did you also know that these deaths are preventable?
- In order to combat this issue PCTVS will be taking part in the Great American Smokeout. The official Smokeout pledge will be sent to you today. We urge you to take the time to read it, to sign it. Pledge to be smoke free and help others do the same.
- Remember students and faculty can still send us your “I pledge to not to smoke because…” pictures for our instagram page!
11.20.20 -
- Thank you to all those who participated in The Great American Smokeout yesterday. We appreciate your efforts in pledging to take positive action against the harmful effects of smoking.
- With that being said, there is still a lot of action that needs to be taken. According to the CDC, “If smoking continues at the current rate among U.S. youth, 5.6 million of today’s Americans younger than 18 years of age are expected to die prematurely from a smoking-related illness. This represents about one in every 13 Americans aged 17 years or younger who are alive today.”
- Today may mark the end of these daily anti-smoking announcements but the fight against smoking does not stop here. We must all make an effort to help ourselves and others around us.
- Check out the “I pledge not to smoke because…” pictures on the @pctvs_ti instagram page!! Stay safe. Stay healthy. Wishing you the best from the ti@TI family!
